  • Diplomacy

This module offers a practitioner’s perspective, looking at concept, and how these operate in real life as countries work to promote their interest in the contemporary global environment. The module provides participants with the tools to analyse world affairs and attempts to impart with them the craft skills of diplomacy. Topics include:

 

  • Role of Diplomacy in Interstate Relations
  • Diplomatic Sciences
  • Diplomatic procedures and Processes

Participants will sharpen their analytical skills and become aware of the complex and concurrent objectives that countries pursue in their external relationships and how this makes the foreign ministry the hub of dynamic network that many actors, state and non state, each with a legitimate role in foreign affairs.

  • Diplomatic and Corporate Protocol

This module will serve as the guide for all employees in need of a use of the diplomatic protocol, corporate protocol and social etiquette, in both public and private affairs. In addition its purpose is to assist executives in reaching their full potential knowing that companies improve when people improve. Protocol intelligence will propel the participants to world class status allowing you to increase your ability to work in a global environment by communicating with more sensitive minimising language barriers and better interpreting audiences, theory tripping the scale in your favor.

  • Diplomatic Practice

The course aims to provide knowledge of the nature of diplomacy; when diplomacy is appropriate; the advantages and disadvantages of different diplomatic methods; and the lexicon of diplomacy. In general, a participant who has successfully completed this course should have a strong grasp of the nature of diplomacy conceived as a specialised professional activity developed over many centuries, and be able to defend its value with authority and enthusiasm.

  • Multilateral Diplomacy

This course introduces participants to the diplomatic interaction among more than two actors, with particular emphasis on the multilateral diplomacy represented by the United Nations system. The course provides an overview of all protagonists and their roles, as well as of the complex framework, intricate rules and methods of multilateral diplomacy These challenging topics are complemented by insights into the processes leading to the adoption of documents by States within international organizations, as well the current transformations affecting the multilateral system. The course blends an academic perspective with the experience of current practitioners of multilateral diplomacy through illustrative case studies

  • Diplomatic and Corporate Etiquette

This course teaches participants about the fundamentals of business etiquette. Participants learn how to build relationships, create a professional appearance, and develop positive relationships with co-workers and practice cubical and office etiquette. In addition the course teaches participants the appropriate behavior and etiquette when using the Internet in daily communications and in meetings. Participants also learn how to handle ethical dilemmas, personal issues, become a good conversationalist and be courteous when communicating. Participants also examine the appropriate etiquette for business meals and functions as well as how to be a courteous traveler at home or abroad.

  • Foreign Policy: Definition, Origin and History, nomenclature, Orientation, characteristics, Execution and Implementation

This module examines broad definitions of foreign policy and the contributions of IR theory to Foreign Policy Analysis. Historical antecedents of foreign policy as a practice are examined via observations of traditional bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, followed by traditional state-based actors, non-state actors, and the nature of the structure they inhabit. FP decision-making is then examined, followed by the process of foreign policy implementation. The issue of motivation is tackled through analyses of the largely domestic impact of culture, interests and identity and broader effect of intra-state norms, ethics, the issue of human rights.

  • International Relations

This module gives participants an introduction to the theoretical background to international relations and examines a range of contemporary and historical topics through which it is possible to explore the behavior of states and international organizations. The main areas of theory will be covered and these will be related to changing international environment in which they were developed. Major themes including national interest, realism ideology superpowers war and co-operation will be addressed as well as the practical aspects of the subject. This course will also contrast the international behavior of small and large states

  • International Law

This module plays a critical role in regulating state actions in the contemporary International system. Good understanding of International law and its application is important and would contribute to the effective performance by the participants in the international arena. It includes:

  • International public law
  • International private law
  • Conference Diplomacy

This course aims to familiarize participants with the basic nations and concepts of Conference Diplomacy. It is designed to provide participant with an overview of the underlying dynamics, processes and system at work, particularly in the context of various conferences and negotiations. Participants will have a fuller understanding of the complexity of multilateral conferences and their interacting elements and be able to integrate more readily into multilateral conferences processes.

  • Communication Skills

This course is designed for managers, executives and all other staff whose role requires them to interact or communicate more effectively with others. This is a highly participative course, with the contents tailored to the needs of your organization such as:

  • Effective communication
  • Communication in teams
  • Interpersonal skills and others

  • Negotiation Skills

The aim of this course is to introduce the basic types of negotiation using specific examples from historical situations. The main focus will be on positional and principal types. Participants will also become familiar with the concept of BATNA with regards to strategy and defense mechanisms, and students will learn four aims of principal negotiations and how to reach them. Attention will be paid to the structure of negotiation process, argumentation and preparation. The specifics of bilateral, multilateral and plurilateral negotiation will be addressed Students will also become familiar with the basics of mediation and facilitation.

  • Conflict Resolution

Conflict is a natural and common phenomenon in social interaction. This course will identify a range of conflict resolution approaches, but will focus primarily on negotiation, mediation, and advocacy. While different types of conflict management are discussed as important social work roles, participants have an opportunity to explore the theoretical basis for a conflict resolution approach and gain experience in how to put a comprehensive set of conflict resolution techniques into practice.

  • International Conference and Procedures

This course will help participants with a comprehensive manual of the rules of procedure for the conduct of business at international conferences and at assemblies of inter-governmental organisations . It examines the legal basis of these rules, the history of their development and the attempts at their codification. It will examine the practical applications of rules of procedure.

  • Diplomatic Leadership and Empowerment Techniques

The leadership module covers the entire essential of today’s leaders. This is a hands on and interactive module that use real life scenarios to develop practical leadership skills. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to leadership and the steps one must take to become an effective leader.

  • Grooming and Deportment

This course will help you to be groomed in a way that would be beneficial to the advancement of your career, which will give you the confidence to deal with the challenges presented to you in a highly competitive & pressured environment.   • Consular Diplomacy

This course provides comprehensive insight into all dimensions of consular diplomacy and its connections with interstate diplomacy.  At heart, consular diplomacy deals with two sets of people: first, one’s own citizens who need documents, protection and assistance in differing situations while resident abroad or in transit, whether in a legal or undocumented status; and second, foreign citizens coming to one’s country who need visas to enter, and issues arising from that

  • Cross Cultural Business Ethics

This course helps participants to manage performance anxiety when presenting a multi cultural environment. It helps the participants to increase the knowledge and skills in managing multicultural communication

  • International Security Module

This course highlights the changing nature of security, focusing on problems in defining national interest and national security threats, security dilemma and the decision making process; the course will further examine causes of ethno-political conflicts, conflict   escalation/   transformation and post conflict reconciliation. Finally, the course will review terrorism, its definition, its causes, psychological and technological aspects, and the increased role of intelligence and international cooperation

  • Intercultural Communication

This course familiarizes participants with the various dimensions of the cultural environment of business and politics and sharpens their interpersonal skills as intercultural managers and communicators.  An emphasis is placed on practical applications of intercultural communication theories in a business context. In order to facilitate intercultural learning, a variety of intercultural simulations and case studies are used. Both an individual and a group project form part of the academic requirements for this course.

  • Strategic Thinking And Analysis

The course examines the concept of security as the primary goal of strategy, exploring practical questions such as the threats and vulnerabilities, which require strategic solutions. Special geographic areas will be highlighted for an examination of security issues - Europe and emerging states. The course will analyze the most influential and important works in strategic theory, and their specific manifestations in the strategic doctrines of the major powers. The course covers political and military strategies and their development in the different historical periods. It also examines various analytical approaches to problems of international conflict and cooperation, and of system stability

  • Language of Diplomatic Documents

Normal 0 This course develops knowledge and understanding of the structure content and style of language that is used for diplomatic documents. It also provides a basic understanding of tools used in the language of diplomatic documents. Close attention is paid to the use of the note verbal, memorandum, communiqué, agreements, Aide memoirs non papers, telegraphs, drafting of diplomatic documents, stylistic peculiarities of diplomatic documents. Case studies of treaties, presidential speeches, public announcements, government advertising and media materials in will be used in order to link theoretical discussion to practical examples

  • Diplomacy and Crisis management

This course considers crisis management in theory and practice, drawing from the period since World War II. Theories of crisis prevention, escalation, management, de-escalation, termination, and post-crisis management; alternative decision-making theories, structures, and processes; the nature of crisis bargaining and negotiation; and the role of third parties. Special attention will be paid to the role of military force in post-Cold War crisis scenarios

  • Working with difficult people

In an ideal world, difficult behaviors have no place at work. However, in reality, dealing with difficult people is something many people face as part of their everyday work life. The stress of handling difficult people and difficult situations can create a lack of productivity, poor attitude, and reluctance to come to work. Through hands-on activities and practice exercises, participants learn how to better deal with all sorts of difficult situations: from complainers and time stealers, to interrupters and gossips, this course provides the tools for dealing with all types of work behavior problems

  • Diplomatic media handling skills

This course teaches participants how to handle the media effectively and enjoy working with journalists without fear. It covers:

  • Diplomatic History

The goal of this course is to provide a survey of diplomatic history from ancient times to the present with the main emphasis on the 19th and 20th century. Key topics and events of diplomatic history, including the most important personalities in diplomacy, will be interpreted within the context of the history of international relations. It is expected that the students have basic knowledge of World and African  political history, particularly of the modern and contemporary era.

  • Diplomatic law

This course introduces participants to diplomatic law in general and diplomatic privileges and immunities in particular.  Combining a theoretical introduction with practical exercises, participants will become familiar with current developments in the field of diplomatic privileges and immunities.

  • Bilateral diplomacy

The course provides participants with the tools to analyze world affairs, and attempts to impart to them the craft skills of diplomacy. Participants will sharpen their analytical skills, and become aware of the complex and concurrent objectives that countries pursue in their external relationships, and how this makes the foreign ministry the hub of a dynamic network that has many actors, state and non-state, each with a legitimate role in foreign affairs

  • Role Of Diplomatic Missions

The goal of this course will be to demonstrate and examine international relations and politics from the perspective of diplomatic missions abroad. Whether it is the increasing influence of non-governmental organizations, multinational corporations, or traditional trans-governmental organizations like the UN, IMF or World Bank, diplomatic missions must address not only the policy objectives of their own countries in foreign contexts, but also the increasing diversity of often conflicting political and economic interests of non-state players. The course will also make students familiar with the structure of everyday affairs in diplomatic missions abroad.

  • Public Diplomacy

Public diplomacy is a “hot button” topic today - a decade back, even the term was known only to some specialists. Globalization, the resurgence in the methods of diplomacy, bilateral, regional and multilateral, and the telescoping of external and internal issues, and more than anything else the “democratization” of diplomacy has opened up the way in which governments and countries deal with one another in the international system Ordinary people are more interested in foreign affairs than ever before, and want “open” diplomacy. Governments feel obliged to communicate with their publics, on objectives and the results achieved with the funds they receive. This course covers the goals and methods of public diplomacy (PD), outlining what it can and cannot do, with case studies.
