China – Africa Relations Bright

The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy met a four-member delegation from the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) on Friday 28 July 2017 at the Institute’s campus. The Delegation was headed by the Deputy Secretary General, Dr Tao Tao.

The purpose of the meeting was to compare notes and exchange information on China-Africa Cooperation, Security and Governance Challenges facing Africa and People to People Exchanges. The meeting also sought to strengthen the longtime friendship and partnership between the Institute of Diplomacy and the CPAPD in collaboration for cooperation, sustainable development and peacebuilding efforts in China-Africa  cooperation. The meeting covered a plethora of contemporary issues including diplomacy and security matrices in Africa and the China-Africa economic, social and security cooperation, governance and Development questions in Africa as well as issues of People to People synergies and exchanges.

Both parties concurred that security situation in Africa was vulnerable and volatile and posing a big threat to the continent’s developmental trajectory. It was also noted that security could not be delinked from reform and development. It was alarming that new country conflicts which degenerate into regional conflicts were still rampant in Africa. The meeting also reflected on the new emerging trends and global issues that can foster the China-Africa cooperation. They identified some major initiatives intended to create the critical security for future success:

  1. Improved open communication, cooperation, and trusting interaction.
  2. Improved robust, timely, and accurate data and science technology.
  3. Peacebuilding and Conflict management decisions based on a more complete understanding of the political, social and economic contributions of both China and Africa.
  4. Ensure broad access to the greatest possible range of cooperation and engagement.
  5. The fight against corruption in all its forms and learning from China’s Grafty Fighting Experience.

The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy looks forward to an interminable and perpetual cooperation, development, peacebuilding through diplomacy, partnership and engagement with the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament.
