The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID) celebrated a significant milestone as 54 students graduated in a ceremony highlighting the critical role of diplomacy and diplomatic practice in today’s soft skills centred world. The event saw 31 students awarded Diplomas in Contemporary Diplomacy and International Relations, while 23 received Executive Certificates in Diplomacy, Protocol, Business Etiquette and Professional Branding.
Her Excellency Nadeska I. C. Carlson, Ambassador of Nicaragua to Zimbabwe was the Guest of Honour. In her keynote address to graduates, Ambassador Carlson underscored the indispensable nature of diplomacy in navigating the complexities of the 21st century. She remarked that today’s world demands diplomacy more than ever before hence it was imperative that the youth, who are future leaders, embrace diplomatic principles to foster a peaceful and harmonious global community. She urged the graduates to become ambassadors of peace and understanding, utilizing their newly acquired skills to bridge divides, gaps and divisions towards constructive relationships.
Mr. Vova Chikanda, the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy, reiterated that diplomacy holds the world together. “The knowledge and skills our graduates have acquired are not merely academic achievements but tools for building bridges, resolving conflicts, and fostering international cooperation. We encourage our graduates to apply what they have learned in the real world, to become effective diplomats in their respective spheres of influence.”
The graduates, representing a diverse range of backgrounds and professions, demonstrated their commitment to contributing to a more peaceful and interconnected world. The Diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy and International Relations equipped students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary international relations theory, diplomatic practice, and global governance. The programme navigated Diplomacy and Statecraft; Negotiation Skills; Conflict Resolution; International Law; International Organizations; Foreign Policy, Formulation and Implementation; Principles of Leadership; Business Communication; Customer Service; Protocol Functioning; Event and Project Management to mention a few. The Executive Certificate program, focusing on diplomacy, protocol, business etiquette, and professional branding, provided practical skills essential for navigating the complexities of international interactions and professional environments.
