Kwibuka 25 Remember Unite Renew: Rwandese and the International Community Commemorates 25 years of the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda
The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy, Mr V. A Chikanda joined the members of Diplomatic Corp at Arrupe Jesuit University on the 12th of March 2019, as Rwanda commemorates the sad chapter of humanity with regards to the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Over 800 000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus were killed 25 years ago during the infamous genocide in Rwanda.
Speaking during the 25th anniversary of the Rwanda Genocide, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr James Musoni, emphasized that in order to challenge the idea of genocide, leaders should always fight injustice, promote a culture of tolerance, provide equal opportunities to citizens and respect for the rights of others.
“No community is beyond repair and the dignity of a people is never fully extinguished. Never should genocide be allowed to happen anywhere in the world,” concluded His Excellency, James Musoni.
Speaking at the same occasion, Honorable Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, alluded that this commemoration should serve as a lesson on the importance of forgiveness.
Minister Mutsvangwa said it was a lesson that, “we must be one another’s keeper, brothers and sisters”, adding: “What consumed one of us today, could consume another tomorrow if it is not curtailed.”
However, we believe diplomacy should always pave a way for peace and tranquility in the contemporary world. We wish the people of the Republic of Rwanda peace, prosperity and eternal unity.
