CANADA NATIONAL DAY

 

The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy joined Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Corporate World and Government Officials in celebrating the Canadian 150th Birthday at an auspicious event held on 30 June 2017 at the Official Residence in Chisipite.

The Canada day, originally called Dominion Day is one of the significant and most celebrated days in Canada and throughout the world with Canadians living abroad. It is a federal statutory holiday to celebrate the anniversary of July 1, 1867 when Canada gained its independence from the UK.  The Guest of Honour from the Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed Zimbabwe’s solidarity and friendship with Canada and professed his gratitude with the interminable and perpetual cooperation, partnership and engagement between Canada and Zimbabwe, especially with the food reliefs during the El Nino period.

Highlighting that It was his last year of tenure, Ambassador Kumar Gupta articulated that he remains optimistic that all the projects and developmental initiatives that he pioneered will still become a success even in his absentia especially those issues to do with poverty alleviation and putting an end to child marriages.

The Ambassador also reiterated Canada’s resolve to stand with Zimbabwe to fight poverty, unemployment and backwardness which has been haunting the country.
