Equatorial Guinea Celebrates 50th Anniversary

A key ally of Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea celebrated its 50th Anniversary of the National Day at an auspicious event held on 12 October 2018 at the Meikles Hotel, Harare.

Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe enjoy robust economic and political ties. His Excellency Jose Ela Ebang, the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Zimbabwe pledged full support to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his policies to continue help Zimbabwe for the overall development of the nation. The country assisted Zimbabwe with a fuel importation facility of $200million during the hyperinflation period. Zimbabwe also helped Equatorial Guinea with security personnels in 2016 when they hosted the Africa Cup of Nations. Zimbabwe Defense Forces is also currently assisting in training the Equatorial Guinea’s military.  

The two country’s relations strengthened after Harare foiled a coup to topple President Teodoro Obiang Nguema in 2004.   This was an indication of our shared international objectives to maintain international peace and security. Zimbabwe will continue to strengthen its relationship with Equatorial Guinea to achieve greater economic prosperity.
