The Embassy of Sweden hosted its final National Day celebration in Zimbabwe, marking the end of a long and significant diplomatic presence in the country. The event was attended by Mr. V.A. Chikanda, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID), alongside government officials, diplomats, development partners and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Per Lindgärde noted that the closure of the embassy does not signal the end of relations between Zimbabwe and Sweden. Rather, it marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation, with Sweden remaining committed to supporting development initiatives and maintaining strong bilateral ties.
For many years, Sweden has been a trusted friend and development partner of Zimbabwe, contributing to the country’s growth and development through various programmes. While the embassy’s closure brings an era to a close, the partnership between the two nations is set to continue through new avenues of engagement.
The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy values the enduring relationship between Zimbabwe and Sweden and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing shared goals of development, diplomacy, and international cooperation.
