The Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy (ZID) joined the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Harare on 23 July 2026 to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of Egypt’s historic July 23 Revolution. Academic V. A. Chikanda, Chairperson and Principal Lecturer of the Zimbabwe Institute of Diplomacy, attended the commemorative reception.
The reception brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of international organisations accredited to Zimbabwe, senior Government officials, corporate leaders and members of the diplomatic and academic community, reflecting the enduring friendship and expanding cooperation between Zimbabwe and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
In her address, H.E. Dr. Maha Serageldin Moustafa Kamel, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Zimbabwe, described the July 23 Revolution as a defining moment in Egypt’s modern history that advanced the principles of national sovereignty, independence, dignity and social justice. She highlighted the Revolution’s enduring influence on Africa’s liberation movements and reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to strengthening African solidarity, promoting sustainable development and deepening cooperation across the continent.
Delivering the Guest of Honour’s address on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, commended the longstanding friendship between Zimbabwe and Egypt. He noted that the relationship dates back to Zimbabwe’s Liberation Struggle, during which Egypt, both bilaterally and through the then Organisation of African Unity (OAU), provided invaluable material and moral support to Zimbabwe’s quest for independence. He also expressed Zimbabwe’s appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast support of Zimbabwe’s successful election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, with its term set to commence in six months.
Beyond being a diplomatic reception, the celebration served as a vibrant platform for cultural and business diplomacy. Through cultural performances, documentary films and exhibitions, guests experienced Egypt’s rich civilisation, cultural heritage, scientific achievements and contributions to peace, innovation and sustainable development. The event also showcased opportunities for strengthened economic cooperation and people-to-people engagement, while reaffirming the historic bonds of friendship, mutual respect and shared aspirations that continue to unite Zimbabwe, Egypt and the African continent.
